Tourism and Travel

florida beach vacation basic decision

CHOOSE A PROVISION: First things first, of course, and the most basic decision you need to make is where on the 600+ miles of beaches will you spend your precious vacation time? There are many factors to consider: the distance from your hometown and the travel time involved, the price of the holiday rental, the features and the availability; actions that are vital to your family, such as boating, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, hiking, etc. and for some beaches and pet friendly accommodations. Some beaches are busy and crowded, such as Panama City, Clear water, Siesta, Dustin, Miami and others. Accommodation also varies – some have many high-rise buildings, and therefore many more rental units and many more guests. Other resorts tend to have lower densities and fewer units, such as Cabot San Blas.

There are about a dozen areas in the state that have a pet-friendly beach. Read the restrictions for the various destinations to fully understand the restrictions, if any, for bringing your dog. For example, in Cape San Blas, dogs are welcome on a leash on Gulf County beaches, with the exception of St. Joseph’s Peninsula State Park, where they are not allowed. Some beaches have restricted areas where dogs are allowed or at certain times.

Florida choice for best friend beach vacation

The wonders of the internet make narrowing your choice of location so much easier than it was before! Using a Google phrase search phrase that describes what you’re looking for can give you a list of placements that you can start researching. Try searches like “Pets Allowed Florida Beach Family Rentals” or “Uncrowded Florida Beach Rentals” or other search strings that your family likes. Ask for recommendations from others who have had positive holiday experiences. Many counties or cities have tourist forums where you can log in and ask questions. If a place is a serious consideration for you, visit their forum and see what people should share.

Everyone has a “perfect” beach destination that they love. Just like some people prefer chocolate and a little vanilla, I will not try to tell you what I think would be your best options. I can tell you which beaches I like, but that’s it. My current favorite is Cape San Blas, where we have our rental business and two houses. Why do we love the Cape? We like low density, beautiful sunsets, amazing beaches, fishing and scallop fishing (St. Joe Bay is considered pristine Florida waters, and oysters, fish and scallops are amazing). We like hiking in State Park and riding horses on the beach. We love that our dogs are also allowed on the beach. But again, around are numerous delightful beaches in Florida. Find the one that best suits your family and go for it!
